Guide: Ball Wall
These glass bricks can be used to create a mnemonic device within a stairwell of a multi storey building. Glass bricks run floor to ceiling through the whole height of the building, forming a continuous column in the exterior. Within each brick is a floating 'gobstopper' the colours of which change with each floor, assisting the visitor to identify their location.
[Giordano Bruno was burnt at the stake by the Catholic church for writing that there were other worlds circling around the distant stars; supporting Copernicus' theory of a heliocentric universe and refuting the accepted Ptolemaic earth centered anthropocentric world view. The turquoises, aquamarines and royal blues that lie at the heart of each block reminds me of Bruno's statement, his prescient conviction that we are not alone in this universe. Were I on a voyage between stars and decorations similar to these were aboard then I would be reminded of home too.]
